Project 2A

The Discovery Center (Genius Loci) - Site Analysis, Site Response and Design Concept

The landscape of a certain location resembles the meaning of that "place," or its "genius loci," through its society, culture, history, and memory. As Project 2's goal is to design a Discovery Centre for Tanjung Tuan Recreational Forest, these characteristics will inform the architectural idea and generators. The architectural response to the sense of place must be made with a strong connection and relationship to the site and programmatic needs, according to the project design brief. Project 2a calls for a site context study as a starting point.

Both quantitative and measured methods, as well as intuitive and individual methods, must be used to comprehend the site. There are many different methods for documenting and comprehending the location, ranging from physical surveys to qualitative elements of experience and individual interpretation of the locale.  Understanding the site's people, community, culture, activities, and history is equally as vital as understanding its physical features because they all contribute to the identity of the "place," which is why site visits are necessary.
