PROJECT 1A
Preliminary studies – Townscape Appraisal
This study involves an in-depth investigation and analysis of Pudu Town in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The goal is to evaluate the area’s potential for responsive design and placemaking by examining key indicators such as urban structure, relevant theories, and conducting a SWOT analysis. Through this comprehensive assessment, the study aims to uncover insights into the unique character and dynamics of Pudu Town, providing a solid foundation for future design projects. Ultimately, this research seeks to inform and guide the development of designs that are deeply rooted in the context and culture of the area.
PROJECT 1B
Architectural Design Strategy
In this project, our task is to develop a design strategy for an Urban Heritage Gallery in Pudu, drawing on insights from the site analysis conducted in Project 1A. The primary focus is to enhance the public realm by infusing it with a distinct character, ensuring continuity with the surrounding urban fabric, and fostering adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the community. This strategy aims to create a space that not only preserves the area's heritage but also enriches the everyday experiences of residents and visitors alike, contributing to the cultural and social vitality of Pudu.
PROJECT 1C
Echoes of Reminiscence
An engaging gallery that provides exhibitions and workshops that not only showcases Pudu's fading memories but also function as a remembrance and learning center for the locals by presenting various creative programs. The collection focuses on five major topics that people have constantly forgotten or neglected: Pudu Jail, Sultan Street Railway Station, Tin Mining Era, Cinemas, and the Printing Business.
